The day care that my cousin and his wife send their 4 month old to had a death at one of their facilities, not the one that she actually goes to. It was in the paper this morning and the story said a 22 year old woman got frustrated so she threw down an 18 month old boy. He ended up going to the emergency room and dying.
My cousin and wife are distraught and don't know what to do. I can understand their struggle. They really like where she goes, but keep her in after this??? It did not happen at their facility but who knows who hires the staff... My heart goes out to them and the family who lost thier little boy. I wonder if the day cares will even be able to stay open after this.I know that she will be talking to the owner/ staff and see what they have to say.
What do you guys think they should do???
Sooo Scarey!!

Wow...that would be such a tough decision to make. I think talking to the owner/manager would be a great place to start...

WOW!!! What company Robin??? I think that is the first thing to think about. When I worked in the day care center before another one of our locations had 2 teachers in the toddler room giving the kids benadryl at nap time to make sure the kids slept. It was a horrible incident, but we were such a big company it wouldn't be fair to judge all centers by the misjudgement of 2 teachers in 1 center, and as a result of that SEVERAL changes were made company wide. If it is a small mom and pop center I would say get out as it is different.

Robin I just read the newspaper article and the story BROKE my heart for that family! I know that company, and sadly that doesn't surprise me, please tell your cousin to take the baby out RIGHT AWAY! We'll talk.

What a horrible situation! I feel for the family that lost their child. They'll probably never forgive themselves for using daycare. And what a terrible place for all the other families to be in now! I don't even know what to say!

Makes you stop and think---there is a certain level of trust present when hiring folks to take care of our kids - we just make assumptions that there are screening procedures in place and precautions taken when hiring help. I guess we need to reevaluate those.
