Hi! I’m Tammy and I've been a Homeschooling-Stay-At-Home mom since 1993. I live in rural North East Texas with my wonderful husband, and very quickly growing teenage son. · We have a small farm where we enjoy country living along with raising dairy cows, dairy goats, and pigs. Along with our farm animals we also have 2 Yorkshire Terriers and 1 Golden Retriever that keep guard around the farm! lol Needless to say, I have a very eclectic group of subjects that get photographed and find their way onto the pages of my layouts.
It seems that all of my life I have been involved in some sort of crafting. Growing up I remember being involved in clay, ceramics, decoupage, leatherwork, weaving, painting, etc. In 1981 I was a Miss Teen World contestant and was required to put together a scrapbook. I wasn't crowned Miss Teen World, but I did win the scrapbook division. How was I to know that this was just the beginning of a passion that would grow later in my life?
In 1995 I was re-introduced to scrap booking and my husband has encouraged me in this hobby ever since. My desire to preserve our family photos through scrap booking has grown and expanded into many areas over the years. I have discovered that preserving history can take on many forms and doesn't have to be locked inside of a book. Over the past year I have begun to expand into areas that are not your typical scrapbook supplies such as artist acrylic paints, gel mediums and pastes. All of these products have added depth and dimension to my artwork. I actually consider myself more of a mixed-media artist because I have taken a lot of my photographs out of the pages of a book and they are now proudly displayed in my home décor in different ways.
When asked about where I create, my husband would probably say, “in every room in the house!â€. I do have a small studio that is off of our bedroom but many times I really do migrate to the dining room and kitchen. My studio area is very nice though. It is quiet and I have a big window that provides some lighting in that area. Some think that I am way too over organized because all of my ribbons, buttons, and embellishments are sorted by color and kept in individual containers. I like this system because it saves time from sorting through everything to find the particular color that I need. All of my supplies are stored on open shelves and this also provides an unexpected inspiration for a layout or project from time to time.
I would like to thank Dixie Pieces for giving me the opportunity to be the June 2009 Guest Designer!
