Now days, it seems that not matting your photo is the trendy thing to do. I still want my photos to stand out from the background. So my question is, what do you do to make your photos not blend into the background?

I sometimes get my photos printed with a white border so technically they're matted (right?) that helps. I also either ink or sand the edges so there is a breakup between the photo and the page base.

I'm actually going back to matting more after veering away from it for a while. One thing I've been doing is matting them as a group (using one piece to matte all 2 or 3 photos together. I also like the white border which can serve as the matte.

I mostly don't mat anymore either. To make the photos stand out I think photo placement, use of embellishments, titles and journaling help. Its funny to see how things change in the scrapbooking world! Before it was like "WHAT NO PHOTO MAT???" also recently the number of photos has changed a lot as well as doing 2 pagers!

I always mat my photos, I don't care what the trend is or isn't, I like how it looks. Once in awhile I just ink the edges, but I still put it on a piece of patterend paper before applying it to my page - not technically a mat, but close enough.

For me, it kind of depends on the layout. If I have a pretty subtle background page, then I may mat it for interest. However, if I'm putting a lot of photos on the page, I may NOT mat them, to keep it from looking too busy.

I do a little of both.......but mostly mat. I always think it looks naked when I don't.

I have been known to sand the photo edges with an emery board in order to turn them a rough white ---that way they can stand out without matting.

With me.... I just go with my mood... I don't really care about the trend... I just do what I think looks best on a page.

I mat if it feels right; otherwise, I don't. I love that I have the freedom to do either.
