creating their own font? I have been looking into it and it seems like something that is totally doable! How fun!

I have. I have programs to do it and have been making them for another site.

It's fun because I've made my own dingbats too.

I made my own handwriting font, but that's the extent. There are sooooo many thousands of fonts out there, I doubt that I wouldn't come up with anything that hasn't already been created by someone.

I have NO idea how to even make my own font! What program/hoe do you do it? I think it would be fun to have one of my own handwritting!

Val, you can use a site called fontifier www.fontifier.com if you want to do your handwriting - you print off the template then you write the letters on it, scan it into your computer and upload it - within 3 minutes you have the font of your handwriting to download. The cost is $9
I love having the handwriting font because sometimes I want to have my handwriting but I don't want to have to write the journaling out. Its a great option to have.

Thanks Marci! I ike to use my handwritting, but I have this HORRIBLE tendency to not write straight, or my letters can vary in size, so this would be PERFECT to avoid that problem!

is that the same program you are using gin?

Same concept. I have a program that you print out the same template, fill it out, scan it and it generates a font. But, sometimes it leaves the font a little messy, jagged edges and stuff, so I have another program that I edit each font individually to clean them up. I've actually purchased the professional edition so I can sell them commercially like I've done with the other place I DT for. I bought both my programs from www.highlogic.com It's called scanahand and font editor.

Hey, Gin - I have tried this (with fontifier.com) and my block print turned out pretty good, but my cursive is stinky. Basically, the cursive letters don't "hook up" right - they are often too far apart, and the ending line of one letter doesn't match the beginning line of the next letter. Do you have any tips on this? I like my 'real' handwriting, and would love to be able to type with it for my digi LOs.

That's why I have the Font Editor program, so I can connect my letters. You have to change spacing between letters, called kerning etc.. The fontifier had a set "spacing" that's why they only charge 9 bucks, but if you look around to to find cursive writing you'll notice that other sites can charge you up to 45, it's time consuming to connect the letters.

ah... Yeah - I pulled the images into Photoshop and messed around with that a little, then I take the kerning way down when I use my cursive font and it sort of works.... but mainly, it looks like crud. I may have to try those other programs. Plus, I noticed that I have different ways of writing, based on what letter is before/after the letter I'm drawing, and I know you can do some of that with advanced fonts... anyhow, thanks for the info!
