It was a show called "My Fake Baby". It was about these women who buy these lifelike dolls and carry and treat them like real babies! This one had like 5 and she pushed them around in strollers and would have them custom made and considered the "labor" waiting for the doll to arrive. She even made sure they had "coming home outfits" like a lot of women do with their real babies. Pretty crazy.

I know there is "entertainment" but when I see what is going on in our society (just think about some of the things on recent threads!) and then I see people making TV shows like this - and those "mothers" obviously are one can short of a 6 pack - I think it is very very sad. Not to mention there is a part of me that almost feels insulted that they feel that waiting for a doll is "labour"!

I think its dangerous to indulge such fantasies by women who are clearly in need of professional help. What happens when having the "fake" baby isn't satisfying enough and they decide to kidnap someone eles' child? I think I can say with some certainty that I won't be watching that show.

I saw the story about this on MSN website... I meant to watch it and forgot about it... kinda freaky!!
Although I know that sometimes they use baby dolls as therapy... I did some training at a nursing home years ago and one of the residents there could never have children and they would give her dolls to calm her down when she was upset... she loved them and would rock them and sing to them... it helped her cope because it filled a void in her life.... she'd always wanted to be a mother.
But for a person to say waiting on a doll is like labor.... they obviously never had to give birth!!!

I can tell you---I would rather wait for days than go through labor! Labor was okay though because you knew that the gift at the end of the tunnel was worth it! ----This is just strange.

Marci, the crazy part was one lady travelled from England to Washington to pick up her doll, bonded for a few days then rejected it when it wasn't perfect because there was a crack that was covered by hair. Makes you wonder what she would do with an imperfect REAL baby.

You MUST be kidding me - what a whackjob. It just goes to show you how ridiculous it truly is, because you're absolutely right Gin, you can't "reject" your baby because it has an imperfection.

OH wow... that is just NUTSO... lol I can understand trying to fill a void etc but with a doll??? There are so many kids that need to be adopted and if you can't adopt get a puppy... At least you won't be classified as a crazy lady that pushes dolls around... Makes me glad that for now we have no tv...
